In an overwhelmingly Muslim country, Christianity is the largest religious minority community in Pakistan. Estimates of the Christian population range from a low-end 1.5% to 3.0% of the total 165+ million people.
In Pakistan, minority religions can face harsh discrimination in nearly all aspects of life including education, finances and politics. Christian students usually suffer from lower grade point average because they do not earn points through reciting the Koran like Muslim students. When they become an adult and enter the job market, they are often denied opportunities when employers find out they are believers. The constitution enshrines freedom to worship, yet Christians feel intimidated by rising extremism.
The challenge for our pastors and evangelists is to lead people to commit their lives to a life-changing relationship with Jesus and to encourage and empower believers in Christ to form vital, thriving and life-changing churches. Our pastors live sacrificially and often risk their lives to preach the Gospel in outlying villages and rural areas. |
